Lt. Cate Gable did the honors by pulling the firing pin! WOW! LOUD!

…I find that people worry about me. I dasn’t go more than a day or two without writing a blog or someone is sure to call or write, “Are you okay?”  And then I feel guilty.  After all, the “Oysterville Daybook” does imply that I’m writing every day or at least every two or three days.  So I apologize — I haven’t reported on any Oysterville doin’s since May 24th and  my excuse is — the younger generation!  Son Charlie and Bonus Daughter Marta left today after a week of fun and frolic; Cousin Alex, even younger, leaves Friday to do some visiting of his own and then (perhaps) I will put the “day” back in Daybook.  Meanwhile, here’s a summary of the last ten days:

On Monday, May 25th (Memorial Day) Members of The Honorary Oysterville Militia gathered at the Cannon Grounds, as is their custom, to honor those members who we have lost “in the line of duty.”  Lt. Cate Gable, ordinarily our THOM Poet stepped up to serve as Chaplain in the absence of Lt. Steve Kovach who has recently moved away.  (If you are a THOM member who is interested in serving in that capacity, please call me (Adjutant General Sydney Stevens) and “we’ll talk” as they say.

Happy Birthday to Charlie!

Son Charlie and Bonus Daughter Marta arrived on Wednesday, 27th and stayed for an entire week — the longest visit in years!  Marta (also known as MartaRoonieBobs or Roonie for short) had not been here since 2023 so in addition to celebrating Charlie’s 70th (!) on May 30th, we celebrated the reunion of the Three of Us — the only three left now of our little family circle.  Alex was here, as well and the four of us had a celebratory dinner for Charlie at the Bridgewater Bistro on his birthday.  (I am still replete!)

They managed it perfectly — killer stairs and all!

Betwixt and between, we visited with Oysterville neighbors, had a tour of Cyndy’s relocated house — and how is it that it seems SO MUCH BIGGER inside now that it has been moved and reoriented?  Throughout the week, we also had three (yes, count ’em three) repairmen come calling — an electrician to replace a socket in the back bathroom, two service calls to 1st) diagnose a faulty stove burner and 2nd) to replace said burner.  We also had a new mattress delivered for one of the upstairs beds (and the old one taken away); we (me) also lamented and (Charlie, Marta, Alex) enjoyed the ever-increasing number of bunny rabbits living under the house and rapidly destroying my garden.  Sigh!
