We spent a few days recently with our friend Dick up on Bainbridge Island. It was a delightful stay, jam-packed with bookstore browsing, window shopping, and eating fabulous meals at our host’s table as well as at a few downtown restaurants. We even squeezed in a late-afternoon matinee – “Lincoln” which I highly recommend.
The last morning of our visit we awoke to a landscape dusted with snow – our first “winter wonderland” experience of the season. I, of course, wanted to document some of the views out Dick’s windows but my camera was dead in the water. It had notified me on Day One if our visit that I needed to “change the battery pack.” I had neglected to bring a spare with me and was advised at a local camera shop that I wouldn’t find one on the island… Doncha hate it when that happens?
Nyel had his old, dead i-phone with him because, mysteriously, even though we cancelled all association with AT&T, some of his apps still work – like the camera!! Hooray! (I was so glad he hadn’t taken time to transfer his contact information to his new, way-cheaper tracfone, so he had both with him “just in case.”)
I also bumped into another technical problem: no Wi-Fi at Dick’s. That came as a surprise early the first morning when I wanted to post my blog. We solved the difficulty by going to the Bainbridge Bakery for coffee and scones (not as good as Jayne’s here in Nahcotta), and while I posted my blog, Dick and Nyel did the morning crossword. It was a great beginning to each day.
And, of course, we had that oft repeated discussion, “Has it really been that long since we’ve been here?” But we knew it had, because I’ve been blogging for three years come March first and have never missed a day, not even when on the road. I had to smile. Imagine measuring time by ‘before blog’ or ‘since blog!’ Truly, a whole new world!
Bainbridge is very cute ala Cannon Beach. I’m glad you had fun and could still take pictures. Phone pictures can be pretty good! A safe drive home.
