Trapped!

A Truck As Big As A House

The roofers came back to our house on Sunday to finish up our lower roof before the rains came.  We were thankful for that, especially when we woke up to the all-too-familiar pitter-patter on Monday morning.  We are snug.  However, we are feeling a bit trapped, too.
These workmen are neat and tidy.  They pull up one of their huge rigs as close to the designated work site as possible and toss the old shingles and roofing material into its hold as they go.  All the while that they were working on our lower roof, our front gate was blocked from eye and access.
Never mind.  We can easily get to the porch (and thence to our front door) by walking down the lane and going in the side gate.  That gate is not visible from the street and, unless people know it’s there, it would appear that there is no ready way into our yard or our house.
The first two days that the roofermen were at work, they tidied up before they left.  They also moved their truck – not far away, but they backed it up enough so that our gate was free and clear.  For some reason, they forgot to do that on Sunday.
The rains are to continue until Friday says the weatherman who lives in my i-phone, so we don’t expect the workers to return for most of this week.  That, of course, means that we are more-or-less trapped as far as getting out our front gate is concerned.  It’s inconvenient, mostly because walking down the lane and across our lawn is wet going in the rain.  But, for us and for our friends and loved ones it’s do-able.
But what about the occasional UPS or FTD delivery?  Not that we’re expecting anything…  I thought about calling and asking the head roofer guy to come and move the truck.  However, he lives over in Astoria and weighing our inconvenience against his brought me to the conclusion that we can tough it out.  Anyway, maybe the weatherman is wrong.  He often is.
