Honeysuckle in Bloom

Looks like summer! Sounds like summer! And now that our honeysuckle is blooming comfortably, it even smells like summer like summer here in Oysterville. We are ready for Sunday and the summer solstice!

Sweet Memories – Regatta Day 2012

As far as I know, we will be celebrating the longest day of the year only peripherally. Kuzzin Kris will be here and our ‘salute’ to the day will be to attend the first of the summer’s vespers services. We don’t expect any “caped druids, antler-wearing poets, or raggedy mummers” in attendance. Not like the crowd at Stonehenge, as described by National Geographic’s online travel site.

The First York Rose

I think we’ll content ourselves with enjoying the music of the Presbyterian Choir, visiting with those old friends we don’t often see except “in church,” and wandering the garden savoring the sweetness of roses and birdsong. Sunrise comes at 5:11 and sunset at 9:11 so, with an extra cup of coffee along about mid-afternoon, we should be able to enjoy every minute of daylight with a minimum of effort. (Being early risers, it’s the p.m. hour that might present a challenge…)

Mike’s Long Beach Weather site says the day will be “partly sunny, with a high near 62. North wind 6 to 8 mph becoming west in the morning” — more-or-less a typical June day for our neck of the woods. I’m not sure what the tide is doing, but if it’s ‘”right” and the wind is enough, maybe there will be a few Oysterville sailors on the bay. To my mind, that would put the finishing touch on the summer solstice in Oysterville!
