A Rare Treat
I’ve always thought that I could cry right along with the best of folks. I tear up at weddings and at happy endings and I’m sure that the expression “I laughed so hard I cried” was created just for me. So it is mystifying to me that I suffer from a condition called “Dry Eyes.”
That’s probably not the real name of it. But my ophthalmologist(s) – yes, plural – tell me that my eyes look very dry when they examine me. Yet, I produce the usual amount of tears. It’s the quality of the tears that causes the problem. Who knew? Quality of mercy… yes. Quality of tears… sounds fishy to me.

A Daily Dose
Which brings us to fish oil and flax seed. It was suggested that I increase my intake of omega-3, either by eating salmon every day (I think that was suggested in jest) or adding a tablespoon of ground flax seed to a smoothie or a bowl of yoghurt as part of my daily health regimen. I’d much rather do the salmon thing, of course, but I’m picky about that. It has to be wild and it has to be fresh – none of this farm-raised or ‘fresh-frozen’ or, God forbid, genetically-engineered-raised-in-hatchery-tanks salmon.
I understand that ‘they’ now have obtained FDA approval for the GMO salmon and it will be in local stores before I can blink my eyes. It will be labeled GE for “Genetically Engineered.” Talk about tears! Now that’s something to really cry about! GMO salmon! OMG
Taking the fish oil capsules at least eliminates the possibility of mercury since we are poisoning the ocean. I, too, could eat salmond daily, but “they” say even the wild-caught contain enough heavy metals that only a couple of servings per week are recommended. Costco sells some good flax bread. Keep it refrigerated after opening. Personally, I would (and do) take the capsules.
My doctor recommended the ground flax seed over and above the fish oil… just sayin’.
Dry eyes must be the new “thing”. I was diagnosed thus yesterday.
“They’ve” been telling me this for ten years or more but it definitely seems to be the big rage. So far, though, no one has told me why it’s such an issue — especially since I’m asymptomatic. Do you know? Are our eyeballs going to dry up in their sockets???
