Scott & Mary’s Wedding Photo by Larry Murante
Yesterday was Saturday and it began and ended perfectly, but there was one of those startling realizations in the middle that sort of spoiled the whole thing.
First of all, the weather was perfect. Nyel planned to mow the lawn and I thought that I’d spend the afternoon with the weeds. I had set aside the morning to work with my neighbor Carol Wachsmuth getting the Vespers 2015 packets together to send to the participants. And, all the while, I was looking forward to attending Scott Docherty and Lady Mary’s wedding reception at the Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, scheduled, or so I thought, for early that evening.
About mid-morning, I checked my email and saw that I’d had several communications on Thursday that I had completely missed. One concerned the wedding reception and said loud and clear that it was to be Friday evening at six o’clock. Damn! Damn! Damn! We had missed it entirely! I just hate those ‘water under the bridge’ moments!

Scott & Mary’s Wedding Cake by Jill Trenholm
Along about mid-afternoon I was ready to take out my frustrations and disappointment on bindweed and buttercups when along came Larry and Karen Murante and Joe and Jill Trenholm. They had been central to both the wedding and the reception and filled us in on all the events of the day – the wedding venue (the magnificent Clatsop County Courthouse!), the wedding outfits (gorgeous!), the reception (Bill and Sue went all out!) the music (an open mic!), the cake (by Jill!) – and gave us many kindly-meant reassurances that we had been missed.
I loved their visit, loved/ hated hearing all the details, and forgot to ask if I could borrow a few photos from their FaceBook pages. So… I’m doing it anyway. It’s probably not the next best thing to being there but I’m not sure there is one.
And, watch out, weeds! I definitely haven’t ‘moved on’ yet!
So great to see the two of you yesterday. Thanks for the garden tour and the chicken exhibit. It was a glorious day indeed! See you again soon!
