Wouldn’t you know it? Just when the sunshine finally finds Oysterville and just when Nyel has only a few remaining days in his ever-so-confining sling, I do something to piss off the gods and we’re back at square one in the game of recovery. A broken hand. And, of course it’s my right one. And, as far as I know that pesky gear shift on the Cruiser is still in the same place.
Typing is a pain so this will be short. The best the doctor and I can figure out – I remember whacking my hand a good one on the marble dresser top as I dashed by to answer the phone. That was a few weeks ago. It hurt like fury for a day or two and I had a bit of a bruise. And that was that, or so I thought. What we think now is that I broke the end off one of those delicate bones that go from finger to wrist.
Then came this glorious weather and I took advantage of it to work in the garden on Tuesday and again on Wednesday. Just for an hour or so each day, but apparently that was enough to dislodge the bone chip, cause my hand to swell up, and the pain to set in.
X-ray yesterday. A CT scan and an immobilizing cast today. A trip to Vancouver and a hand specialist next week. Maybe they’ll remove the chip. Maybe they’ll try to re-attach it to the bone. There are probably other possibilities but those are the two my doctor mentioned.
I’m sure there’s a moral here somewhere. Don’t rush to the phone? Be less clumsy? Don’t work in the garden? Or all of the above.
So sorry Sydney….when it rains it pours???
OUCH!
Or maybe the message is to sit in the sunshine with Nyel and enjoy the day without guilt… 🙂 Yeah, THAT feels much better! 🙂
Take care or yourself.
Sydney, no! Of course you couldn’t have been trying to juggle too many balls at once, right? So between you, do you have one good left and one good right arm? Get well soon, and stay that way, both of you!
Nope! Only two good left arms. Well, fairly good. I drive. Nyel shifts. Maybe time to get an automatic?
That’s hysterical and would be wonderful in the movie version of life in Oysterville or Travels with Sydney!
“I drive, Nyel shifts” — love that. Metaphor there? and please get well soon!!!!!! Love from just slightly south of you.
This is soooooo unfair! We feel so bad for you. Please be careful!!!
