Proof Positive!

Yesterday I finished reading the proofs for my upcoming Arcadia book, Oysterville.  I think I like it.  Sometimes at this point in the process, it’s hard to tell whether the book is all you wanted it to be when you first signed on the dotted line.  It looks like this one is a keeper.
Oysterville is part of Arcadia Publishing Company’s “Images of America” series and, like all of their books, it is mostly pictures – more than 180 of them!  I was able to gather the images through the generosity of neighbors and friends whose families, like my own, have saved and treasured photographs of Oysterville since its very early days.
I chose to tell about the rise and fall of the town’s fortunes as they paralleled the fate of the oyster industry on Shoalwater/Willapa bay.  Much has been written about both Oysterville and the oysters, but it is the photographs that make this book unique.  Having a collection of historic images ‘all in one place’ gives a different insight into the Oysterville of now. It’s due out in about two months.  I’m already planning the celebration!
