Sue and Bill near Three Pines, 2016
When Nyel made appointments for us to get our Moderna Boosters at Walmart’s in Warrenton on the afternoon of Sunday, October 24th and we, in turn, told our friends Bill and Sue about the possibility… little did we know what ramifications lay in store. Soon Bill called us back with the good news that they were scheduled for their boosters immediately after ours. And would we like them to pick us up in Sue’s van — “the wheelchair will ride comfortably in the back” — and then go out to dinner afterwards? Would we ever!
So it was that we had an absolutely sumptuous meal at the Bridgewater Bistro and were headed home by 6:30 or so. Just as we were getting onto the bridge, Nyel’s cellphone rang but he couldn’t get to it in time. Almost instantly, Bill’s cellphone rang and, even though he was driving, he managed to answer. It turned out it was the Bistro and “someone in our party” had left a cellphone behind. “It was on a chair — like it fell out of a back pocket.” Sure enough… it was mine. “I’ll go over tomorrow and get it,” I told Bill. But he was already saying, “as soon as we get to the other side, we’ll turn around and come back for it.”

Just a Hop and a Skip
We were still a little mystified as to how both Nyel and Bill got calls so when Bill and I went in to claim the phone, we asked. “When I saw the phone,” the Hostess said, “I looked around the restaurant and found the youngest customer here. I asked him how we could find the owner of the phone and he simply dialed the last person who had been called. And when there was no answer, he called the next person…” That had been my call to Bill about the boosters. And little did we know how important retrieving that cellphone would turn out to be…
Within an hour of our return home we had a power outage which, as it turned out, involved a substation and the entire Peninsula. Nineteen hours later, when our power returned, our landline and internet connection did not. Different problem but probably, ultimately, caused by the same storm. Little did we know then that we would be without landline and internet access for the next 13 days! Thank goodness for our cell phones! Also, little did we know that we would be using a cellphone hot spot as well as the phone, itself, to connect with the outside world… And little did we know how friendship and booster shots and generosity and kindness would play into another Oysterville Adventure!
Agree, you have good friends in Sue and Bill. And let’s give a thanks to the kid who knew more than his elders.
