Here are some things about my kuz, Kris Jones: She is the most positive person I know. She’s always one of the funniest people in the room. She’s a retired opera singer. She lived for several years in Nepal and helped establish a Foundation to stop the trafficking of young girls. She teaches voice and meditation. And, most important of all: day before yesterday she and her piano (and other stuff) moved into a house on Bay Avenue.

Moving Day!

Moving Day!

It is the 54th move of her lifetime! When I asked her if it’s her last move, she looked at me rather blankly and then said, “Probably not.” As one of our other cousins said, “Oh, Kris isn’t a nester!” I guess, by contrast, most people I know are. I’ve really not known many folks of retirement age or beyond who don’t hope that their latest move as their final move. As I said, Kris has a purely positive outlook on life – there are always new possibilities on the horizon.

I don’t know how that concept works, really, but it can’t be just a happy accident that the very day Kris moved in she was offered (an accepted) a job as a voice coach. She came to dinner last night bubbling with delight! Teaching voice is what she does, the word is already out, and she hasn’t missed a beat! I’m pretty sure karma comes into play somewhere in that scenario.

The only part of this description of Kris that I’m a bit fuzzy about is whether or not we are truly cousins. I can’t quite work it out. My mother’s first cousin Barbara Espy married Bronk Williams. Bronk’s sister Virginia was Kris’s mother. So… are we cousins or not? Not that I really give a fig about all that. The important thing is that we are friends and now she lives less than five miles away! Woot! Woot!
