Garden Tour Poster

We’ve been studying the map showing tomorrow’s “Music in the Gardens” tour, trying to decide where to begin. At the south end and finish up at the Nordquist house right here in Oysterville? Or start there and wend our way south on the front road and come back on Sandridge? So many delightful choices.

And one of the hostesses mentioned food! “I think most of us are offering a little something,” she said. It’s a good thing that isn’t being publicized or we’d have yet another factor to consider – savories first and then sweets? Or the other way around? As it is, we are looking at the musical offerings as a way to sort it out. There will be music in most of the gardens, during part of the 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. time period, so we are thinking that we could plan our visits by ear!

We’ve been watching for exact times/locations on FaceBook and trying to plot our route on the very helpful map inside our ‘ticket brochure.’ It’s like putting together a three-dimensional sound puzzle when some of the pieces are still missing – an intriguing exercise in anticipation for sure!

So far, this is the information that we have to work with (taken from a July 6^th FaceBook entry):
            Patti’s Garden:  Cheri Walker will play Celtic folk harp from 10 to 1.
Goelz Garden: The Mozart Chicks from 11-2 PM – The Mozart Chicks started as a duo and multiplied into a trio, then a quartet, and finally a quintet over the past 12 years.  They all live on Long Beach Peninsula and each has her foot in various other musical groups as well as other pursuits. Their instrumentation is an unusual one, but Hannelore Morgan, the group archivist, has managed to find some wonderful arrangements of pieces that span many musical periods
        Steve and John’s Garden:   Wilho Saari – Wilho Saari is a fifth-generation Finnish American player of the kantele, the Finnish psaltery.
         Barclay Garden: Tom Trudell, acclaimed local jazz musician, will play all day.
     Seal House and Garden:  Jennifer Goodenberger –  Concert pianist and composer, Jennifer Goodenberger, is known for the elegance of her playing, and her sensitive and expressive performances. Her music is a mesmerizing fusion of classical, improvisational and contemporary styles. For this Garden Tour, she will be performing soulful original
compositions, hauntingly beautiful renditions of American Folk Songs, and captivating Celtic Airs.
               Pell’s Bible Garden: Brian O’ Connor from 11 to 2 PM – Soft rock and folk guitar, playing songs of others as well as his own compositions.
      Ed Strange Garden:  Randy Brown, jazz guitar and vocals.
     Darla’s Garden:   Shelley Loring will play the flute.
      Oysterville garden:  From 12:30 to 3 PM, Barbara Bate will play piano and entertain with her amazing repertoire of songs.

A Beckoning Path

We are hoping that there will be more information forthcoming by tomorrow morning. But, no matter what – it will be a lovely day of looking and listening. Oh, and did I say that tickets (with that all-important map!) are available at Adelaides in Ocean Park, Peninsula Landscape Supply in Long Beach and The English Garden in Seaview.
