Our plans for attending the Sunday matinee at the Bainbridge Cinemas had to be abruptly aborted yesterday. One of those Best Laid Plans things. We had eaten dinner near the theater the night before with our long-time friend and weekend host, Dick, and had checked out the show times for “Spectre” playing the next day. Three-thirty. Perfect!
But when we arrived, no movie. The nice man at the box office explained that it wasn’t showing because… and there he lost me. It was something about streaming on the internet instead. Say what??
After a short consultation among ourselves, we decided to get some popcorn (three large bags, please) and go back to Dick’s and watch a DVD. Which we did. We saw “Waking Ned Divine” and made ourselves a little sick on the popcorn. Later, we had cherry tomatoes and avocadoes and smoky Gouda on crackers while we watched reruns of the “Big Bang Theory”. It was the perfect way to spend a frosty Sunday afternoon/evening with an old friend.
But, speaking of old friends, I was sorry to miss James Bond. I hope we can catch up to him later. He and I go back a long way – clear back to 1953 when we met in Casino Royale. I read every one of Ian Fleming’s 007 books and remember being quite pleased to learn that they were favorites of President John Kennedy’s, as well. That’s because the Prez (“Jack” as we called him) and I go back a long way, too.
Well… not that I exactly knew him. But my cousin Freddy used to see him at parties occasionally when she was dating George Plimpton before they got married. (Freddy and George, that is.) She would occasionally speak of him (Jack, that is) to Louise, my Uncle Willard’s wife, and Louise would mention it to me. It’s one of those six degrees of separation things – Ian, James, Jack, George, Freddy and me. But “Waking Ned Divine” was good, too.
I’m so happy you got to see Waking Ned Devine. I love that film so much! And Casino Royale, too. I always love reading stories about your family.
