Happy New Year!

Midnight 2013-2014

Midnight at the Space Needle

This morning began later than usual.  We slept in after having stayed up to see the New Year in for the first time in years.  We saw the Space Needle alight with fireworks, sang “Auld Lang Syne” with new and old friends, and were back home and tucked into bed about 1:30.  A different beginning to 2014 than our usual same-old-same-old pattern!

So, over our morning coffee, I decided that my letter-of-the-year would be ‘D.’  D is for Dare to be Different!  I’m not sure how far I can extend that idea.  Breaking old, boring habits is one thing. I think I can do things differently in that sense.  But being different in the sense of ‘dancing to my own drummer’ is more difficult.  Still, there’s no time like the present to give that a shot.

I’m not sure what other D words are worth cultivating – perhaps diligence and dispose/donate and diplomacy might be good.  Diligence as in writing every day; dispose/donate as in cleaning out the back forty; diplomacy as in saying what I mean but in a nice way.  Of course, there are D words to shy away from, too.  Dementia, disease, death and dismemberment.  Yikes!  (Already I’m wondering if I should dispense with D!)

Dawn over Willapa Bay

Nyel says his resolution for this year is to exercise more and to eat less. That seems to make his letter for the year an ‘E.’  Good one!  E is for energy, excitement, economize and elegant.  Sounds like a great year to me and I’m happy to add “ditto” to my D list.

Here’s to a Delightful and Exciting 2014 in Oysterville and beyond!  Happy New Year to All!
