Pumpkin Substitute?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether the day-to-day events of life come under the category of Good News or Bad News. It’s probably a matter of perspective. Take yesterday’s news from Hollywood concerning son Charlie’s play: postponed until mid-January!
It seems one of the actors had to leave the cast just five days before the scheduled opening. Bad news for the acting company for sure. Possibly good news for us, though. We may be able to attend after all.
And then there was the matter of the pumpkin thief here in Oysterville. Night before last he struck again, this time taking the two remaining pumpkins on our verge and leaving an empty plastic shopping bag in their stead. That was the bad news. The good news was that we did not feel compelled to spend yesterday afternoon carving Jack-o-lanterns, taking as we did a rather ‘the hell with it’ attitude.
Bad news (or good, depending…): no trick-or-treaters came through Oysterville last night. Good news (or bad…): we have that big bowl of Halloween candy to ‘take care of.’
And so it goes. We managed to say “Rabbit Rabbit” first thing this morning which is supposed to assure good luck for the month of November. The bad news is that we remembered in October, too, and that didn’t work out very well.
Hmm, that’s the same night our truck was ransacked in Ilwaco. The hooligans were definitely abroad that night.
