Doncha hate it when that happens?

Our house has been full of the most amazing bouquets and flower arrangements since our big celebration on Saturday.  Some came with cards attached, but many did not.  My intent was to photograph each bouquet hoping that eventually I’d put a “25th Anniversary Album” together and maybe sources would be revealed.

It was a good thought.  So good, in fact, that I relaxed knowing that it was all taken care of.  The images were safe on my camera’s memory card.  And then I woke up in the middle of last night with the startling thought that I had never actually followed through. I had never actually taken those pictures! Hard on the heels of that news flash was the realization that all those bouquets have already seen better days.

But, in the hope that it’s never too late, I went from room to room this morning turning vases this way and that in my attempts to hide the worst of time’s ravages.  At least these sadly over-the-hill images will serve as reminders… not only of the fleeting beauty of the flowers but of the fleeting nature of my thoughts these days!

There was one little flower arranging trick that I didn’t photograph but that I think I’ll remember anyway.  I’ve noticed that in recent years, clear glass vases have become popular.  I’ve also noted that, depending on the arrangements, all those stems that show through under the flowers can be a bit distracting.

A gorgeous bouquet from Sammy’s Flowers in Portland solved that problem.  A wide, dark green leaf had been wrapped around the stems, effectively camouflaging those underpinnings and creating an interesting ‘look’ in its own right.  The perfect solution!

Now if only there was a solution to fading flowers and a rusty rememberer…

Those white roses are breath-taking! Thank you for sharing the lovely arrangements…including mine…since we couldn’t make it.
