- Roses! Roses! Roses!
Seventy-five of anything is ‘quite a many’ – seventy-five children on the playground, seventy-five dollars in your wallet, seventy-five roses in your house! YES! There are seventy-five long-stemmed red roses in my house, delivered yesterday in honor of my seventy-fifth birthday which comes tomorrow. Nyel-the-rose-elf arranged them in tall vases – every single one we had – and there they were surprising, overwhelming, delighting me when I exited from the writing fog of my office yesterday.
Such luxury! But, economical, I’m told, in comparison to a round-trip ticket to Paris for lunch. That was at the top of his list of possible birthday gifts, but couldn’t be justified in these perilous and permanent and personal economic downturn times. Wow! Another case of the thought definitely counts!
So, there are gorgeous roses all over the house – in every room from dining room to living room, from library to bathroom! Everywhere I look! To think that each gorgeous flower represents a year of my life is almost overwhelming. I seriously don’t feel one bouquet’s worth, age-wise I mean. Seventy-five roses! Seventy-five years! Unbelievable!
I can picture your house filled with roses and hope it will be filled with joy for days to come. I’m sorry that the weather prevented us from going to Tillamook for tea to celebrate our birthdays, but we will get there yet. I like to drag out the celebrating of my birthday and we’ll make it a party whenever we celebrate!
Happy Birthday, Sydney!
What a beautiful, thoughtful, fragrant gift! The happiest of days to you with many more to come.
