We missed out on two much anticipated events yesterday – the Oysterville Community Club Christmas Party and a potluck dinner in memory of a friend. Damn! We had our food contributions ready for both and every good intention of going, but…
This time it was my turn to be down for the count. Some dread intestinal attack that kept me doubled over in agony most of the day. Definitely not a fit state to be celebrating anything. And, to make matters worse, Nyel is still dependent upon me for transportation so, not only did he get the dubious pleasure of staying home with me, I felt guilty at ‘keeping’ him here.
Getting sick during the holidays is the pits. There really is no time to ‘take to your bed until feeling better’ which is probably the sensible advice. Too many things to do – rooms to clean, goodies to bake, decorations to put up, presents to wrap. To say nothing of the parties and get-togethers and other festivities to go to!
So… my heart goes out to all those who are feeling poorly and to whom ‘the season’ seems more of a burden than a pleasure. “This too will pass,” I tell myself. Quickly, I hope.
I find Christmas to be a mixed blessing. I dislike shopping other than the casual sort with best friend. The on-demand sort ties me into knots. Wrapping is also not my favorite activity. Usually Dave does it for me, but he’s been too much occupied with storm clean-up and Christmas light put-up. Luckily our first family Christmas celebration will be at my oldest son’s house to which I contributed money. We were going to take some Costco baklava, but thieves got to it. I hope you are up and feeling better quickly!
Hope you are feeling better soon.
