March 13, 2015 at Adelaide’s
The two bright blue balloons flying on the porch at the Taylor Hotel last Friday afternoon were a sight to behold. The announcement was clear. Katie and Joel’s twins had arrived! Cause for a celebratory coffee but, of course, Adelaide’s was closed. Our drink orders are on hold until they reopen but, like the rest of the community, we are clapping and cheering non-stop.
Our last coffee break at Adelaide’s was Saturday, March 7th. Joel had the ‘temporarily closed’ sign ready to put on the door and they were planning to head to Vancouver shortly to await the boys’ arrival. I wanted to take a photo of the Amazing Katie, smiling and energetic as usual, but she said “Please no!” Fair enough. I think everyone in the community must have been stopping by, checking in, wishing them well. It’s not every day, after all, that our favorite Coffee and Books proprietors are expecting their two first-borns!
The Sign at Adelaide’s
I do have to admit to a lot of hovering, though, in the ensuing days. I checked morning and evening for FaceBook announcements and found excuses to go into town for an Adelaide’s drive-by. Finally, those two blue balloons seemed the answer to our prayers. “They’re here!” But, of course, they prompted a whole host of other questions. “Is everyone okay?” “How much did they weigh?” “What are their names?” “Are they identical?”
Gradually, we are getting the answers. Somehow, by Friday night Maggie already knew that the boys weighed seven-plus and eight pounds, respectively. And yesterday Joel posted their picture on FB with their names – Henry and Louis! – and included the very welcome news that they and their mom are “perfect!”
Now we begin our Stage Two Hovering – waiting, like a gazillion other customers/friends/fans – for Adelaide’s to re-open so we can express our delight in person. And, eventually, we look forward to meeting those two handsome boys and to taking that photo of them and their mom that we put on hold way back when (or so it seems.) If Katie says it’s okay.
