Blessed With Blueberries!

We’ve all heard the expression, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.”  It’s a statement often made in a sour grapes sort of way when someone other than the speaker appears to have achieved success based upon string-pulling rather than upon their skills-set.

However, I have to say that, in the matter of blueberries – lots of blueberries! – the expression more-or-less applies to Nyel and me.  On the occasion of our twenty-fifth anniversary, our friend Erin gave us a whole flat of blueberries!  What a spectacular gift!  And one that could only have occurred because we know the Princess of Cranguyma Farms!

In the “what” department, we definitely know what to do about getting our own blueberries.  Cranguyma’s “U Pick” sign is just ten minutes down the road and we have often gone there to do some serious on-your-honor blueberry picking.

But this year time got away from us and the only freshly picked blueberries we’ve had came from our Red House Cousins.  With them came an apology of sorts.  “These are the world’s worst blueberry pickers,” said Beeg.  She was jokingly referring to her grandchildren, still in the first half of their single digits.  Nevertheless, the one or two cupfuls they gave us was 100% more than we had managed for ourselves.

We love blueberries!  We love them by the fresh-picked handful.  We love them in muffins and on our cereal.  And we love that Robert McCloskey wrote about them in Blueberries for Sal.  Mostly, we love Erin for her thoughtful, delicious (to say nothing of nutritious) gift!
