Yesterday I picked up my new glasses. I love them! And not just because they- cost-an-arm-and-a-leg-so-I-have-to, either. “They” finally got my prescription right and I can see clearly – far away, close up, and everything in between. Plus, they are totally me.
Nyel calls them ‘Harry Potter Glasses,’ probably because they are big and round, but I don’t see it. No one else has mentioned them at all, even though we went to lunch at Jayne’s, then out to dinner with friends last night and, one of our neighbors dropped by for a chat when we got home. Lots of people, lots of chances… but no comment.
Clearly, they are a big deal in my eyes only, which only goes to reinforce that hard-learned lesson that other people don’t necessarily see importance in the same things I do. Bottom line is that I hated my last glasses. I couldn’t see well with them and they sat crookedly on my face. Half the time I groped around without them. Either way, no one else noticed.
And now, no one has noticed my spiffy new glasses, either. They probably didn’t realize how much more at ease I was than usual, how much more intelligent I seemed, how much more obvious it was that I am a thoughtful and kindly person, and how my marvelous sense of humor lightened and brightened our conversations. The right spectacles do that for you, of course. It isn’t just a matter of seeing clearly…
I LOVE THEM, Sydney! They are exactly what I was going to look for when I get new glasses the end of this month. I hope you do not mind if we end up glasses twins. They probably will not look as well on me as you, but I am going to poke around the opticans here before I go get my eyes tested on the 27th.
One of your best blogs! All about you, one of my favorite people. Additionally, the glasses DO look just like you. All your wrote is true….I have a similar pair that I wear at the computer. I call them my PhD glasses because they do, indeed, seem to emit an air of intelligence. Can’t wait to see you in the new spiffy (your word) glasses. Hair looks great too!
Love them! I always think that when people don’t notice new things it is because the new thing is so perfect – it was meant to be!
What a delightful blog post, Sydney. Your confidence has risen due to clearer vision!
You look so cute in your new glasses. They are just perfect. Just in time for your reception to honor the memory of Louise Espy. Sounds like a busy weekend but you will breeze right through it with your Sydney Stevens (aka Harry Potter) glasses! Enjoy!
