According to all reports…

Pointing to Change

The barometer on our dining room wall is quite old but it still appears to work.  Whether it’s accurate or not is another question.  In the forty-plus years it has been in place, it has never been adjusted or reset or looked at by a barometer expert, if there is such a person.  Still, Nyel checks it out first thing every morning.  It is part of the ‘weather report’ that starts our day.
Today the barometer is up two and a half notches.  The needle is hovering at the far end of the “Change” range.  One more notch and it will be showing us “Fair.”  What it doesn’t say, of course, is when the fair weather is set to begin.  According the weather icons that show up on our i-phones, we are in for rain through Tuesday.  Perhaps here at the coast, there is a five or six day delay between the barometer’s report and the promised change in the weather.
Right now the skies look threatening but it is not actively raining.  Things look shiny with wet outside, though, so it looks like it has been, and I thought I heard that familiar pitter-patter at some point during the night.  I’m sorry that our glorious spate of Indian summer appears to be over, but truth to tell I was wearing myself out trying to winterize the garden.  Time for a break.
Not that I’m actually embracing the change of focus – cleaning out our back storage room.   But they say ‘a change is as good as a rest.’  We’ll see…
