Yesterday I began my spring housecleaning; today is the first day of summer. What is wrong with this picture?
All the way back from Ashland on Sunday, I thought about the chores that awaited me at home – chores I actually wanted to get done. Whatever that nesting instinct is that says “Throw out! Clean! Polish!” had finally kicked in. But obviously my circadian rhythms are a season off. What’s up with that?
I blame the weather. There was nothing much here in Oysterville between March 20th and today to let me know that it was truly spring and time to get at those housewifely chores. Yes, there were flowers; but they were several weeks late. Yes, there were birds; but they, like I, were hunkering out of the rain a good deal of that time. And for me, hunkering equates more to reading a good book than to housework.
In Ashland it was bright, sunny, warm (but not yet hot) and I do believe that my synapses got a jump start. Suddenly, I felt energized and ready to clean out the dust and smudge of winter. Time to make my indoors world shiny bright to match the out-of-doors!
I’m trying to ignore the gray skies of morning here in Oysterville at least for long enough to get my house in order. Yesterday I completed the dining room – windows washed, curtains washed and ironed, walls wiped down, furniture dusted and waxed, silver polished. One room down; nine to go. That’s not counting my office which is worth a season all by itself. Maybe autumn.
I know Nyel is tall, but was he standing on a ladder for the picture? I gleeming silver, but hate polishing it. Fortunately my daughter-in-law does not mind. Now that summer’s come and I have two minutes together, there’s a lot I want to do, too!
