The Young Authors in Mr. Doupé’s fourth/fifth grade class have published their book, L is for Long Beach School! It’s a book we started together last week and they have very kindly sent me a copy. I love it!
I found the book informative, imaginative, humorous, and full of enthusiasm. When I finished reading it I felt I had an understanding of the school and a connection with the writers, as well. I think the twenty minutes we had together was time well spent.
And what a wonderful, positive attitude the pages convey! “D is for Destined for Greatness” (“I say this because I usually see people trying their best, like writing amazing expository and narrative stories.”). Or “I is for Imagination” (“One thing about Long Beach School is we all have great imaginations.*} Or how about “N is for Never Give Up!!!!!!!!!!” and “O is for Open Minded”? When I suggested to these students that they think about the very most important things about Long Beach School, little did I think that they would stray far from the obvious — M is for Math or L is for Lunch or T is for Teachers. How wrong I was! They far exceeded my expectations!
Thanks to all of them and to Mr. Doupé for following through! Bravo!
It is wonderful that you and Joe are still sparking children’s minds! I enjoyed working for Joe when he taught 2nd grade at Ocean Park.
Jon and I watched the students working on their pieces and going to the computer to produce them. They were very engaged.
