In Recovery Mode

     Yesterday I had my second eye “done” – cataract removed and toric lens implanted.  Once I recover, my distance vision should be 20/30 or 20/40.  That’s good enough to drive without glasses says my ophthalmologist and it’s a lot better than the 20/400 I was before.
     Near and mid-distance vision, though… not so good.  In fact, as the doctor warned me, having my astigmatism corrected has actually made those closer ranges much worse.  It used to be that I could read and work at the computer without glasses, albeit with difficulty.  Not now.  So, for the next month or so, I’ll be biding my time with over-the-counter specs until I’m healed and can get prescription glasses.
     “Patience” is not one of my virtues.  In fact, as Dorcas says in the BBC television series, “From Larkrise to Candleford,” lack of patience is ‘my one weakness.’  Or, put still another way, Patience is not my middle name!
     In fact, as I recall, in January when I chose my Letter of the Year– which I do annually instead of making a New Year’s Resolution – ‘P’ was my choice for 2011.  Prophetic, actually!  For the next month I’ll be working on persistence and a positive attitude and other portions of patience.
     Pending perfection…this is the current status of things in Oysterville!  Pathetic!
