Oysterville Summer Vespers Coming Soon!

Working on the Vespers Schedule

Yesterday was one of those days filled with good intentions.  I had vowed to finish a first draft of my next article in the “Behind Bars in Old Pacific County” series.  And I had determined to finish the Vesper packets to send to ministers, musicians and other participants in Oysterville’s summer vesper programs.  The first plan got short shrift, but the second is done!  Hooray!
This will be the 34th summer that the Oysterville Restoration Foundation has sponsored the Sunday afternoon ecumenical  church services.  They have been enormously popular, not only with the audiences but with the musicians and ministers, as well.  All the participants volunteer their time and talents and, amazingly, they do so year after year.  Some have been involved for more than 20 years.  Now I call that devotion of the best variety!
The proceeds from the collection basket each week go toward church upkeep. Most summers we take in $1,500 to $2,000 which, when added to a like income from church rentals and from the poor box, allows the Restoration Foundation to break even on the day-to-day maintenance of the old building.  Large expenses such as re-painting or this year’s shutter replacement are another matter.  For those big ticket items, it’s fund raisers or grant applications or appeals for serious donations.
Although there may still be fine-tuning to the schedule, this is what it’s looking like right now:
