Early Morning Snooze
Spending days at a time in a climate-controlled hospital room, even with wandering-the-halls privileges, is a lot like living in a bubble. We are vaguely aware of the ‘outside world’ but it doesn’t make much impact one way or another. At least not much physical impact.
But, if dreams are to be considered, even the outside weather is apparently influential. Day before yesterday, for instance, we were told that it was very windy outside. We couldn’t see much evidence of that from our particular window but Nyel’s nurse said there was “wind-driven sideways rain” on the other side of the building.
Apparently, that information (plus the weather news on TV that night) registered somewhere in my mind because last night my dreams were all about wind. Not wind here in Portland. Wind at home in Oysterville.

Burn Pile
That’s not a stretch, of course, but (as with most dreams) there was a twist. In fact, a nightmarish sort of twist. The wind was out of the west (as it usually is) and was slamming right through our house and into our two huge burn piles. The yard trimmings in those piles were being carried out toward Bay Center across the bay, filling up the bay as they went! Somehow, we were confined inside the house, unable to do anything but watch as the endless stream of grass clippings and rhododendron prunings covered the tide flats and gradually filled in Willapa Bay!
Come to think of it, it was definitely a nightmare, not a dream. One of those horrible situations that you are forced to watch but can’t do anything about. I’ve never been much into dream analysis, but it doesn’t take much imagination to understand the symbolism of that particular dream/nightmare.
Thank goodness for morning light and the cessation of the winds, at least here in Portland. Nyel is feeling some better, we’re trying to figure out how to deal with those pesky burn piles, and another day unfolds!
Continued support and prayers to you and Nyel. Have the big guns from OHSU weighed in yet?! Waiting is so hard…..
