Lost but Safe
I guess I knew it would happen eventually. I think I’ve entered some continuous and endless loop with my very own blogs. No sooner had I written about the things left here at various events and how seldom the lost things are found, than… you guessed it. After our last House Concert I spied on the porch a semi-folded umbrella.
The situation was obvious to reconstruct. There had been a sprinkle or two as people arrived, but by departure time, the skies were clear. Someone had thoughtfully left their black bumbershoot to drain outside and then walked away without it. Well… at least it’s the only one. I do remember thinking at many-a-London-restaurant or pub… “How do they know whose umbrella is whose?”

Look Alikes
And, a few days later when I wrote about “The Changing of the Guard” at the Oysterville Cemetery, here came two emails regarding cemetery concerns. A couple wanted to buy a lot and someone sent an information flyer about cemetery preservation grants. Two! In one afternoon! And I had just assured my successor that we have only two or three communications a year.

Somehow, it makes me think that I am trapped in an M.C. Escher drawing. Or, maybe, like an ant walking on a Möbius strip, I am crawling along and returning to my starting point having traversed the entire length of the strip (on both sides of the original paper) without ever crossing an edge. (When I was teaching and had kids make Möbius strips, they loved to explore this possibility. Endlessly.)

Möbius Strip
Or maybe I’m beginning to cross that line between virtual and real. Yikes! If only someone would claim that umbrella… And, don’t despair, Kitt. Those two emails, even though in the very first month of the year, are bound to be the quota for 2017! Bound to be.
