Christmas Tree 2016
There should be nothing sadder than to come home a week after Christmas to a garlanded tree (somewhat droopy) with the presents still in place under it. But, you know what? It was the most reassuring sight we could have. I felt just like I was bringing Santa, himself, back home after an unexpected detour on Christmas Eve!
There were only a few icy spots on Hiway 26 yesterday afternoon – no spinouts and no delays. We were home in no time flat – well, two-and-a-half hours – after Nyel’s release from the hospital. Oh. Maybe I should say his ‘discharge’ although after seven days, it felt more like a release!

A Sight for Sore Eyes!
We brought with us a sack of meds – some new, some old – and some serious concerns about getting him from car to bedroom. So weak! So weak! But, miraculously, I remembered the old walker that we’d had when he was stove up following his leg surgery. Into bed without incident!

Still Perky
The poinsettias in dining room and living room were still perky. Those Christmas stockings were still hung with care. And out in the coop, the ladies made sure to leave an egg before going to roost! To top it off, we had salmon in the freezer and Brussel sprouts in the fridge which were just right for a heart-healthy dinner for two.
For ‘dessert’ I read Nyel the many FaceBook and email best wishes from so, so many friends. It was a homecoming to remember. We feel blessed all the way around. And… the watchwords for 2017: one day at a time!
He takes a licking and just keeps ticking (thanks to all the help from Team Nyel). Glad the event had a happy outcome! Best wishes for a healthy, uneventful 2017 (uneventful in the medical sense).
