What I need is a song!

Double J and The Dude, Oysterville Regatta

Double J and The Boys

One of the very first people I thought of this morning (beyond my own loved ones, that is) was singer/songwriter Judy Eron.  You may know her.  She is one of the ‘J’s in Double J and the Boys.  (The other is Janet Clark and the boys are is Charlie Watkins… don’t ask.)  It was one of Judy’s songs, “Social Security,” that brought her to mind.  Sort of.

I love that song.  It’s of the earworm sort.  Nine hundred and eighty-nine. That money has always been mine.  I worked real hard for it and I earned every bit…  It’s not only catchy and cheerful, but it resonates with many of us old-on-a-fixed-income folks.  (You can find it on YouTube.)

Piggy Bank

What brought Judy to mind was an early morning message from the publisher of five of my books.  As soon as I fired up the computer, here came my January-through-June royalty statements for sales of all five.  Pathetic.  Immediately the “Social Security” song leaped into my head, but in my version, the chorus began with:  Two hundred and thirty one.  For all the work that I’ve done…  The only thing that saved it from being a lament (which is a fancy way of saying a whine) was Judy’s sprightly tune.

But, that melody’s already been taken!  I need my own.  I think I’ll speak to Judy.  Maybe I could hire her with some of that spiffy royalty money!  Then I’d have my own, personal earworm.  Plus a song in my heart and money in the bank.  Woot!  Woot!
