Rooster-in-a-Box
At last! We are rooster free! Nyel boxed up that bad boy yesterday without incident and we returned him to the Planter Box which is where we got him in the first place. It was last spring when he was trying to pass himself off as a hen. I hope he will find a happy home.
We know that there were a couple of roosters there at one time with a “Mean to Humans” sign on their cage who were successfully adopted. Surely there is hope for Mr. Red. If he warrants a sign on his cage it would have to say “Mean to Sydney.” He was fine with everyone else and especially attentive to his flock. Already we miss his cheerful “cock-a-doodle-do” at all hours of the day and night. (Yes, contrary to popular belief, roosters crow whenever it occurs to them – even at one or two in the morning! But, thankfully, not usually.)

Osa, March 2014
And speaking of adoptions… we understand that Gordon’s cat, Osa, has a new home now. I feel much relieved about that. We took her to the South Pacific County Humane Society just about a year ago when it became clear that this wasn’t the perfect situation for her. Apparently, her new owner was acquainted with her, as were we, back in the Gordon days. I do hope this will be a better match for Osa than we were.
Just in case you wondered… we are not in the market for another rooster. Or another cat. Not right now. Our five girls are just about the right amount of livestock around here for the time being. But we haven’t closed the door adding to the menagerie, either. Nyel is investigating bee hives…
As an farm girl, he will make a great pot of chicken and dumplings for someone.
What a relief…I have been wondering about Mr. Red. Most likely we will never know just what the negative energy was all about; and only with Sydney…
Bee careful what you wish for. Enjoyed your visit and we heard from Robin that Warren did too. Paul
