Perfect Fit
Along about the year 2000, shortly after Nyel and I had moved into this old house of my grandparents, we did some necessary upgrading to the interior – blew in insulation, re-papered, re-painted, reorganized. In that process, we removed some old shelving in the East Room and, in its stead, had built-in book cases designed and constructed, carefully allowing space for our TV.
That TV was probably already old by most standards – at least ten years before it had been a gift from my son Charlie and was pretty much state-of-the-art at the time. But… the years have passed and the world has become digitized and flattened –the world of television reception that is – and we have added about as many boxes and other bells and whistles to that old set as are possible. We finally decided to bite the bullet and get a new TV.
On Its Way Out
We’ve known for some time that replacing our once trusty, old-fashioned set would be a problem space-wise and, quite honestly, we’ve spent years trying to figure out where in the world we could locate a new-age “entertainment center.” The answer always came back to “right where the current TV is.” So, we measured the best we could, made our purchase, and called the appropriate person to install it. We were (sort of) looking forward to streaming movies and whatever other new possibilities exist,
Just to be sure, Nyel removed the TV from its big shiny box and set it up on its stand, only to find out what he had already suspected – it would not fit the space. No way. A bit of online research reveals that there are several other, smaller choices that ‘might’ work; however, not at a location near us.
Installer cancelled. TV re-boxed. Netflix DVDs still at the ready. On to Plan B, whatever that is. Actually, my heart isn’t broken. I’d rather be reading a good book…
Ours in Ilwaco is wall mounted. Perhaps the depth a wall mount would give you would allow you to use the new tv in the old space. Costco has good online deals on technology, including the wall mount device.
