Sydney with Princesses Linda and Lydia
It’s not every day you get invited to a Tiara Party. Not in my social set, anyway. In fact, it’s a wonder I even have a tiara, but I do – thanks to a very glitzy New Year’s Eve wedding supper some years ago where there was bling bling at every place setting. Including tiaras for the women. That wedding probably happened way before the guests of honor at last night’s party were even born.
Like me, my tiara is old but, not so much like me, it is untarnished. It is still as bright and shiny as it was when it was new. Of course, it is plastic, but hey… I don’t think anyone even noticed. All I got were admiring glances. Just like a real princess!
I had some serious competition in the princess arena, though. Stephanie’s granddaughters, Linda and Lydia were the stars of the evening! And, actually, their tiaras were to die for. But they didn’t wear them much of the time – not when they were riding around the neighborhood on their bike (Lydia) and unicycle (Linda.) I think replacing your headgear with a helmet is probably part of the tiara protocol.

For A Tiara Party – The Perfect Centerpiece
Seriously, did you know that there is a website called Tiara Etiquette 101? I checked it out and was relieved to find that most of the traditional tiara do’s and don’ts are being ignored these days. Even the rules for placement of the tiara and the angle at which it is worn have changed in recent years. I had been concerned about all that. Far be it from me to break any tiara protocol!
It was a grand party. I think there were a dozen of us in all. Grandpa Dave barbecued tuna, Nyel contributed one of his famous salads and the top layer of the frothy pink cake-for-dessert had only slid askew a teeny bit. There were deviled eggs and potato salad and another yummy salad with marshmallows. And just before Fred Carter broke out his banjo, Lovely Linda made s’mores for anyone who asked. (I felt extra special because I told her I really liked my marshmallows a little bit burned and she roasted it to perfection!)
Oh, and did I say about the why of it all? It’s because this afternoon the two young princesses are going to “Cinderella”… that’s why! Isn’t that just about the best reason ever for a Tiara Party? I think so, too!
Getting GranDave to wear a tiara was pretty awesome, too, even while cooking tuna!
We had such fun! Too bad most of the people at the party don’t live here most of the time!
Their loss, of course… lol
