Finally! I think I’ve arrived!

I have finally achieved one of those life-time goals! I have become a LOLITS. And the LOL part doesn’t stand for Laugh Out Loud – at least I hope not! As of this morning, I can officially be counted as a Little Old Lady In Tennis Shoes.

I think I’ve accepted my status as an LOL for some time – certainly since I passed the three-quarters-of-a-century mark. But it’s been years since I’ve had tennis shoes. That’s mostly because I was always told that my feet were “too narrow” except for Keds and, as far as I was concerned those weren’t ‘tennis shoes.” They were Keds – with pointy toes and in pastel colors (sometimes even with dorky patterns) and were worn by women with color coordinated pedal pushers and bouffant hairdos. No. What I wanted were the kind of tennis shoes that looked cool – the kind my son and his friends wore. The kind that were always too wide for my feet.

So, the other day on our way back from Seattle, we stopped at South Center where I nipped into Nordstrom’s for a makeup product I can only find there and, of course, I had to do a walk-by of the shoes. There they were! The perfect tennis shoes. Nyel (bless him!) said, “Try them on.” So I did. And I bought them. Never mind that they only come in one width and it doesn’t happen to be the one I need. With the (twelve-year-old) salesman’s encouragement I went a full size smaller than normal and… Bob’s your uncle.

Shoes on Me!

Shoes on Me!

That man at the shoe store in Alameda who used to have me put my feet in the fluoroscope machine would have had a fit. My big toes bump the end of these spiffy new shoes, the arch supports (such as they are) are in the wrong place, and with socks on, the shoes definitely feel quite snug. “They’ll stretch,” said the Nordstrom salesman. And, since it’s 2015 and not 1945 and it’s unlikely that my feet will grow or that I will cause myself permanent damage… I bought them! Woot! Woot!

They look adorable! I hadn’t bought any new tennis shoes in years and last week found a good feeling pair of New Balance at Famous Footware. They are not as cute as your Converse, but they will get me down the road!

I am giggling out loud. I also have narrow feet and have never been able to wear Converse. Always Keds for me. I have tried the 1/2 – 1 size smaller, but never quite get it right. Next time I see a pair of Converse I am going to bite the bullet and try again!

Yes, the shoes look very spiffy, especially on the red carpet. I did have a pair of red tennis type looking shoes about 12 years ago. Wore them until they wore out, loving looking at my feet and received lots of complements. Now I wear the New Balance walking shoe which is not cute or spiffy, definitely a shoe that old ladies wear to help with balance. Let your fans know about the Converse and Complements!

Yes, I’ve been wearing New Balance shoes, too. I hate it that the soles pick of rocks (unbeknownst to me) and end up scratching my dining room floors. Plus I think the shoes are ugly. In line with my “life philosophy” that appearances are everything, I’m dumping them in favor of my new spiffy Converse shoes… (And, I have to say, that I don’t feel any less balanced in them!)

Five comments, and this makes six. Isn’t it surprising what excitement a good shoe story will generate? COL (chuckling out loud)
