A Work in Progress
There’s nothing much more basic than a good, old-fashioned outhouse so, as I put my yesterday in perspective, I think the day probably wasn’t all bad. In fact, clapping and cheering for the progress Tom Douglas is making on the new Church outhouse door was definitely the high point of an otherwise forgettable-but-coulda-been-much-much-worse day.
First of all, I got my foot tangled up with the strap of my purse (don’t ask) and took a header out the car door and onto the gravel parking lot at the Oysterville Post Office. Somehow, I twisted around mid-plunge and landed in a sitting position with everything except my dignity intact. All I could think of as I fell was “this is not how a woman with ‘severe’ osteoporosis should exit her car.”
We couldn’t dawdle (just as well) as we were on our way across the river to keep my appointment for a root canal. It’s not the first one I’ve had and probably won’t be the last, but it’s hardly on my list of favorite ways to spend my time. And, of course, it was undoubtedly in the stars that one of the three root channels proved to be hiding and so the two-hour procedure seemed endless.

Oysterville Neighbors
We closed out the day by watching the news (aka the Murder and Mayhem Report.) Big mistake. What in tarnation is the trouble with this country? Senators interfering with the President? Racial profiling on police forces and judicial systems? Rampant rape on college campuses? And the world situation is even worse – though not by very much.
I woke up this morning thanking my lucky stars and half-moons that I live in Oysterville. Some days that seems hard enough, lord knows, but in the greater scheme of things it’s a pretty wonderful place to be. After all, there aren’t that many places in our ‘civilized society’ where building a new outhouse is a village highlight!
So it sounds as though your day was crappy, in more than one sense! I agree about the news. Those frat boys should be spanked and Congress along with them. Missouri (and I say this as a descendant of Missourians) should be excommunicated. Sometimes I wonder why in the heck we fought so hard to preserve the union when some of the family (including Texas and Florida) insists on acting like…crap. Here’s to a Happy Hump Day. Maybe we ought to turn off the scarivision.
