I think I’d rather be Captain Jack Sparrow

Saturday's Selfie

Sydney’s Saturday Selfie

Somehow I can’t resist taking all those ‘Which character are you?” quizzes that are showing up on FaceBook these days.  I’m here to tell you that I am Lady Mary from the “Downton Abbey” series, Scooter from “The Muppet Show,” and Amy from “The Big Bang” series.  Also, of all the characters Johnny Depp has played, I most closely resemble Willie Wonka.

Nyel likes the idea of me owning a chocolate factory but, otherwise, I’m not very enamored with any of these supposed likenesses.  I can’t figure out if they reflect how I see myself or how I think others perceive me – which, when I think about it, might be the same thing.  The only thing I know for sure is that the questions are designed by twelve-year-olds and invariably there are two or three that I can’t answer.

Mostly, those have to do with today’s so-called ‘world of entertainment’ – who ARE those super heroes, anyway, and why would I care about Justin Bubbly or whoever he is?  But since you can’t finish the quiz and find out which stellar personality you most resemble without answering every single stupid question, I usually soldier on.

Thus far I have learned that, like Lady Mary, I’m “quite lovely once people get to know me but that hardly ever happens since most people are insufferable idiots”  and that like Amy “I’m learning to loosen up a bit to be a part of the group” and that also like Amy “I really, really love tiaras,”

Actually, I do have a tiara.  It is silver-colored plastic with fake pink rhinestones and it is hanging on the back of a chair in the bedroom along with my real-for-sure Mardi Gras necklaces.  I think I got it as a “party favor” at someone’s wedding!  Or, maybe like the feather boa draped over the mirror on the chest of drawers, it was a birthday present from a friend…

Come to think of it, I don’t really need to find out which of those made-up characters I most resemble.  They should be trying to be more like me!  After all, how many glitzy, fluffy, dangly accouterments do they have decorating their furniture and waiting to bedazzle the world?  Maybe I should design a quiz called “Which Oysterville character do you most resemble?”  But chances are, even if I took it, I would turn out to be like the wrong person.  Go figure.

Must be our age Sydney, because I take those BuzzFeed “who are you?” quizes too! Although I do not watch most of the T.V. shows, I am the character that Maggie Smith plays in Downton Abby(?)…and the wise old man from Star Wars, plus Matthew, as the disciple of Jesus that I most represent….what more entertaining us of discretionary time is there?

Personally, I hope to be like you, Sydney, when I grow up.
