The Wedding Season Is Upon Us!
Last weekend a tiny Flower Fairy danced into the Oysterville Church. Her wings glittered and her shoes sparkled and she held on tightly to her basket of blossoms and to her mommy’s hand. It was the first wedding of the season at the Oysterville Church and it may well have been the first wedding ever for the Flower Fairy.
It was the second wedding of the year here. The first was in January and the next one is scheduled for June. There may be more in between now that the wedding season is upon us! Every one is different, every one is special, and we are lucky that many of them involve us, if just to turn on the heat over in the church.
Too, we have a clear view of all the goings-on before and after. And if I’m working out in the south garden, I can often hear the music – but usually not the vows. Of all the activities that take place in our little church, none is so happy as a wedding.
The bride with the two-year-old Flower Fairy attendant was radiant. She was dressed in lime green and she was great with child – due in May I think her mother told me. But it was the groom who looked as if he’d pop his buttons with pride as he escorted his new family out the church door following the ceremony.
“Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?” I asked the couple.
“A girl,” they said.
“And do you have a name for her yet?”
“No, not yet. But, here in Oysterville, we’ve been calling her Pearl!” they told me happily
I doubt that we’ll ever know ‘the rest of the story’ but years from now there may be a knock on the door of this very house by a grown-up Flower Fairy or a shimmering Pearl – someone to report to the lady of the house that they were once in a wedding at the church across the street – a glorious never-to-be-forgotten wedding. It often happens that way here in Oysterville.
